Just got a note that MediaUnbound, a pioneer in the music and media recommendation business, was acquired by Rovi (formerly Macrovision) today. Rovi acquired Rainbow Partners, a company I co-founded in 2000, last year. Rovi has certainly put together an impressive portfolio of talent and technologies.
Congratulations to Michael Papish and the whole MediaUnbound and Rovi teams!
Here's the note about the acquistion:
** MEDIAUNBOUND ACQUIRED BY ROVI CORPORATION **
Ten years and two months after starting MediaUnbound in the teeth of the dot-com disaster, we are pleased to announce today that MediaUnbound has been acquired by Rovi Corporation.
As a division of Rovi, the MediaUnbound team will continue to operate from the Cambridge-area making accurate and interesting media recommendations through the combination of man + machine technology. (The Email Monkeys, on the other hand, will return to their true passion: making conceptual animated video art exploring the intersection of moving images and colonialism.)
Current MediaUnbound customers will see no changes to their services and contact info for support will remain the same unless otherwise notified.
By bringing the MediaUnbound technology and team on-board, Rovi is looking to improve their recommendation capabilities and increase their time to market for new products. By joining Rovi, MediaUnbound is looking forward to being able to recommend that even more people watch this Scooter video immediately:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zA_1FOAxzNA.
See you on the other side...
